Kambove Mining S.A.S. (KMS), a second-tier subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC), was recently granted official approval for its social responsibility plan from the government of Haut-Katanga province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The approval document was issued at the 4th edition of a mining cooperation-themed gala hosted by the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Haut-Katanga province. A total of 24 companies received the approval at the event.

The approval document, formulated in accordance with the Constitution of the DRC as well as the laws and the mining code of Haut-Katanga province, serves as a legal authorization for mining companies to initiate their social responsibility projects.

During the gala, a legal representative of the Haut-Katanga provincial government read the document aloud, signifying a new phase in the institutionalization of the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility.

Jacques Kyabula Katwe, Governor of Haut-Katanga province, congratulated the companies that obtained the approval document and highlighted the tangible benefits of social responsibility initiatives at the event.

He pointed out that social responsibility initiatives have effectively improved the living conditions of local communities where mining companies operate, and represent core measures driving sustainable development.

The government has formally incorporated corporate social responsibility into the mining code through legislation to ensure that mining enterprises and communities share the benefits of development, further strengthening the foundation for win-win cooperation between the government and businesses, he explained.

Wang Shougao, Chairman of KMS, received the official approval document on behalf of the company and delivered a speech at the gala.

In his remarks, Wang underscored KMS' long-standing compliant operations and efforts to earnestly fulfill its corporate social responsibilities and actively contribute to the development of local communities.

As a role model of China-DRC joint venture mining enterprises, KMS has always adhered to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, Wang noted.

In 2022, KMS signed a five-year development plan with local communities, and has effectively carried out 11 of its projects designed to improve people's livelihood since the plan was approved by the local mining committee in May 2023, according to Wang.

In 2023, the company completed five projects, including the construction of a school and a public water well for Kashengeneke village in Haut-Katanga province, youth training programs, and donations of radio equipment and agricultural supplies, he said.

In 2024, another six projects were completed, including the construction of a public water well for Mikuba community and the establishment of a health post in Kashengeneke village, he added.

Wang disclosed that in 2025, KMS plans to implement six more projects, such as building bridges, drilling new wells, constructing football field tracks, and establishing warehouses for agricultural products, further benefiting local communities.

KMS will continue to deepen cooperation with local communities, so as to better fulfill its social responsibilities, continuously improve people's livelihood, contribute to local economic prosperity, and inject fresh momentum into local development, Wang said.
